How Is The Scanning Done?

  • DXA scan is a quick, comfortable and completely painless procedure.
  • You will be asked to lie down on a padded table and a scanner travels along your body above you while scanning.
  • The lumbar spine and hips are scanned. While scanning the lumbar spine you will be asked to elevate your legs and place them on a padded cubical box For hips, the box is removed and the feet placed in a brace to rotate the feet inward.
  • The entire procedure is fully automated with results generated by a computer graphically.
  • After the scanning the physician reads the report and will discuss the results with you at the next visit.
